Hey there,
Does anyone know where to purchase small inexpensive scales to weigh park flyers? I would like one that measures in grams and ounces.
Thanks.
Jeff.

try www.micromark.com (http://www.micromark.com) they have a digital scale in thier catalog that weighs up to 4lbs. and 35bucks isn't bad for a digital scale.

Go to your local head shop. You will find them from $5 to $500. The one I use has a small clip on it. I just hook it to a wing and hold it up like I'm waying a fish. I think it wus $10.

That scale is a great value, but it only weighs is ounces, not grams. Readability is in 1/10th ounce, or 2.83grams. If you are not going to be weighing little bitty things, then 0.1oz is fine, but I like precision and resolution (ok, I'm kind of anally retentive about it.) Two objects that weigh 5g and 7g will both weigh 0.2oz on that scale. A scale with readability of 0.1 gram is 28 times more precise than one that reads to 0.1 ounce.
See the posting of a few days ago, "500th member."
For weighing parkfliers over 14oz, that scale should be great. Most Speed 400 powered planes start around 12-14oz and go up from there.
Cheers!

I've been very happy with the Soehnle scale I got from Sky Hooks and Rigging http://www.mentornet.org/tools.htm#anchor30818 . It's about $100 US and weighs in 10th of a gram increments, so it's good for weighing pieces as you build to see which is lighter. I even weigh pieces of balsa to get the right one. It only goes up to 200 grams, so it's not good for entire park flier planes heavier than about 7 ounces.

Go to Office Max or Staples. They carry the Pelouze digital postal scale that is accurate down to .1 oz or 1 gram increments. It's under $100.

Is there a good source for the triple beam type of gram scales ? Other than the Head shops ? I don't think there are any here in Madisonville.

Well, maybe not in Madisonville, but definitely in Nashville!
Seriously, Precision Weighing Balances, www.balances.com (http://www.balances.com) and www.scaleman.com (http://www.scaleman.com) has triple beam balances from Ohaus and other less expensive brands. My question is, why bother? Mechanical balances take longer to stabilize and need periodic adjustment and calibration. I had one for many years and I am so much happier with my digital electronic balance.
In their $70-$100 balance link, I found this: http://balance.balances.com/myweigh/proscale250.html
This balance looks like a very good value. 250g/9oz x 0.1g, plus parts counting, for $60 on Paypal, shipping included.

I saw one the other day that was bought at Wal-Mart for $30 that did ounces down to 1.10th and grams. It was digital and we gave it the old Nickel test (old nickels weigh exactly 5 grams) and it was very precise.
I'm going to go get one on Pay Day!

When payday comes, let us know what brand, capacity, etc. so we can get one!
Good ol' Wal-Mart!

I think the one at Wal-Mart is a Royal brand.
I bought one before they were dual scale (oz & gr). Mine wirks good but only reads down to 0.1 oz. Not good for weighing balsa or micro RC.
Dose it read in 0.1 gr or 0.5 gram incremrnts ? (The one in Wal-Mart)
