Its been a long time since I've done any glasswork, but I can use just the resin without fiber cloth for sealing the rails right? I know I'd use the cloth for strength but this is not the case. Just keep the water out.
I'd rather use 2 part epoxy but thats a little expensive.

Yea Bro,
You can use what you're talkin about. That's how I did mine an dsince I put the 32cc in ther and had to modify the stringers I added a little glass here and there but I think you'll have no probs if you're only out to water proof

I haven't been on here in a while so sorry if I'm too late but you should not use polyester resin without the glass cloth. It is a poor bonding agent and actually isn't totally waterproof(though it would have to soak for a long time). Epoxy is a much better idea. If you already did it, I'm sure it will be fine as long as you scuffed up the surface to give it a good surface to adhear to.

David
Come on man, keep in touch with us will ya?:D
Fortunatly I did rough it up REAL good with some 80 grit and then used only the resin. The good part is that I could tell the wood had been treated real good, but this was just a security measure.
Installed the shaft log using slow cure 30 min epoxy and a little glass over. Time to putty the hole I made in the bottom pulling the subsurface drive out and add a little paint.

I'm sure it will be fine. My main concern was somebody else reading the post and deciding that it meant it was okay to use resin to finish a wooden boat. I've seen that question asked many times and it could end up being a costly mess. A slight bonk and the resin will crack and possibly delaminate. Water can then soak between the resin and wood which will lead to rot or further delamination.
