My ESC (WattAge IC-5A) has two wires to connect to the motor: red and blue. My motor (GWS LiteStik, came w/ WattAge though) has two colors also: red and black. The red is positive on the motor I know for sure (is it always?). I think the red on the ESC is positive also, but I don't know. Do positive (and negative too) wires always connect with each other? Do I match the red w/ red and black w/ blue? Thanks much for the info. I ask because I think I could screw something up if I put the motor on backwards. Would this do damage, other than making it run backwards?
Muchas gracias. Hasta luego.
Also, why do ESCs come with a few extra transisters (I think thats what they are!?)? I noticed it's the exact same kind as on the motor at the rear connecting the power-input wires (they have the same # stamped on 'em and they look the same. Are these just replacements? The one on the motor is held in place with what looks like cream-coloured silicon. Is this better than other glue or solder? What should I do when this brakes? Thanks again in advance.

Doesn't matter if you hook the motor backwards, it will only make the motor run the wrong way (when you put the prop on, you'll know which way is the wrong way).
The thing you are worried about is hooking up the battery to the motor plug of the ESC. That WILL destroy your ESC, so be very careful when connecting the motor to the motor plug and the battery to the battery plug.
I believe you're talking about the filter capacitators. The little creme colored circles with two leads coming out. They're to smooth out the noise in the circuit. They need to be soldered on if you're having trouble with dodgy servos control, I believe.
