hey everyone. i'm new to rc, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. can i paint my rc car body with normal spray paint, or do i have to go out and buy that special tamiya paint? Thanx.

Well, first off..this is the wrong forum to post this in, but I will still help a fellow r/cer out...

Yes, you really do hafta have the correct paint. The reason for this is that lexan flexes a lot, and the paint cannot be stiff. The paint must also flex with the lexan, or else you will get cracking in the paint, and it will chip off. The paint will also not stick to the body, and will start to flake off. I suggest oyu run to your lhs, and get yourself sume real paint. I also suggest the parma fastkolor line. That is the greates paint i have ever used!

Faskolor is a water-based solution, there is also a laquer-based series of paints by Pactra, which comes in bottles if you have an airbrush, or cans. Either is less expensive than the Tamiya brand. Check out the Painting Forum, lots of ideas there!

I dont know if you know this but I think its Krylon that makes a special spray paint capable of spray painting plastic(s)
