Try losi taper pin reds in the rear with pro-line ribbed M3's
What type of track is it? Is there alot of jumps and turns?

I'll take pics of the track next time I'm there, but there's a short run of it;
starting line to a 40ft straight leading into a big slightly banked left into a set of quads. Then hairpin left turn into a set of whoop-ty-whoops (3 total) and at the end of that set there is an un even jump with the left side closer to the end of the whoop-ties, the center is clear and then the right side is the rest of the jump leading into a sharp right. after that tight is a double about 20ft of a run way that is bent to the right approaching another double. At the end of that double is a hair pin left into a double and over the finish line.

I have pics of the layout but not of the new jumps. http://deznuts05.no-ip.org/pics/Pottbelly/ there's a link the two most recent dates show the track better. I just need to take pics of the new jumps like the quad and the whoops and un even jump.

hope this is enough info

and lastly I'm sorta on a bugdet so what can I make do with a proline wide M3 ribs or M3 half rib half step pins, and M3 holeshots in the rear? sorry I got 5 sets from ebay for $27 so I couldn't pass the offer.

thanks!

hey iu have a used b3 and its sound kinda crappy, am thinkinking i prob need to replace the gears, is there ones that normaly go bad? or ones that dont go bad? Its not so bad that i think it will be easy to spot if i take it apart and kinda want to order the more common gears that go bad and just start working on it once i get them. Its got kinda a ticking sound.

Check your spur and pinion for debris in the teeth and make sure they are meshed properly. I've never really had a problem with any of my T3 or B3 trannies but the idler wears quickest of the 3.

JonBoy
11-28-2004, 10:12 AM
spur seems fine. it also runs fine should i just wait until it gets worse? i just get the feeling if i took it apart i might not be able to see what the problem is.

microrcdude

It doesnt hurt to take it apart. Who knows, it could be as simple as a bad bearing.

I dont race my B3 in the winter because its a carpet track time and my T3 is better for that. I will race it again in the summer.

Got pics of the T3? I like it, nice layout. You hardly have suspension travel right?

No pics of the T3 as it is right now. I run the stiffest shock setup in the class thats forsuer. I get no body roll at all.

Not sure how it would work out on a lower grade radion but I use an LRP ESC and an Air tronics MX3 radio and have no problem what so ever with routing the ESC wires under the battery. I have yet to find the slightest glitching unless of course I let the radio batteries get to low
Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.. glitching. Escpecially since I'm using an older AM Magnum Junior.

Don't know why you'd experience loss of range tho.. unless, for some odd reason, it is reducing the V to the receiver.

I think I'll try the trough and see what happens at the track, don't see pulling it out of the car too often so that's not a prob.

Thanks guys!

Bought this kit new a few years back & just starting to get it going again. Hardly been run & I always kept it in good shape. Ordered $40.00 worth of parts---- pins, clips, nuts, screws, new outdrive hubs, gear cover & transmission brace :)

Was running it the other day & one of the cvd dogbones popped out & tore up one of the rear outdrive hubs. It seems that the dogbones are too short. Never noticed it before but the dogbones are running so close to the outside edge of the hubs that I can almost pull them out the hubs by hand  If only they were about an 1/8 longer there would never be a problem. All parts are tight & nothing's loose or worn & kit is built per the instructions....... turnbuckles adjusted correctly, etc.

Is this an ongoing problem with the B3 ?
Is there a way to fix it ?
I was going to purchase new MIP shiny cvd's but if thier the same length as stock, what's the point?

This is a known problem with the B3 (so I've been told and expreince at the track so your not the only one).

I for one, do not have the Shiny CVD's but I do have CVD's and like I said earlier it still happens.

What I did to avoid this from happening was I put washer on the inside of the wheel hubs that helps. also placing the shocks to middle (top) and outer (lower)... in doing this you have run the chance bottoming out when jumping but stiffer spring could help that but you'll lose traction. well you get the idea...

Personally, I use the washer solution and it works well but I also rearranged the position of the shock, and bottoming out isn't a problem with me.

how this helps.

lol, thats pretty funny. I dont ever want to sell ANY of my rc's. When I have in the past I always felt like **** for doing it and you never get the money back either. Its worth keeping them even if they lie aroudn on a shelf :) I've got a vintage Bolink pan car that just hangs on my wall. I've barely ever driven it but it looks neat!

I think that I would probably get a T4 before a B4. I just can never seem to get my T3 fast in the dirt like I can with my buggy, but with racing a fast ass buggy all the time who needs a truck? :D

microrcdude
01-06-2005, 10:35 PM
Good point. I really only baught the B4 because i wanted to see how much faster i could go. Now i got plans to restore the B3 and run it as a field-filler car for club races, and use it for demos as well.

Really? Shock fluid does that? Wow!

I dont think I've driven a B4, but there are a few people at the track who have them. It really comes down to the driver in the end though.

On the other hand, I drove my RDX today for the first time and I think I'm going to have a lot of fun in touring car. :)

For a while my B3 was faster than my B4 by a longshot.

Deznuts05
02-18-2005, 12:57 AM
the answer is YES! yes.

What I did which was not too long ago, is to get the manual, get a note pad and pen. Then start to break down the car in sections like the rear and then work on the front. As you break down the car make a list of things that look worn out or just something that you may think that needs replacing. Re-lube her, rebuild her and BAM you're ready for some action!

Setup wise all depends on the track... there's a guy on here that goes by Microrc dude and he knows the B3 like the back of his hand... well I know this because I asked him atleast a million questions which he had an answer for.

key hop-ups if you don't already have them:
the blue front springs, might as well get the kit if you don't already have them when you bought your car; just because its cheeper to get the kit rather then peice by peice.

Next, go on ebay and look up 48p pinion sets. when I mean sets they usually sell the odds or evens. doesn't really matter which way you go because you'll eventualy get both at one point in time.

Finally electronics, I would say get the JR590z servo if you're in the market for a good lighting quick metal gear servo for under $50... ok I'm pretty much out becuase things like esc, batts and motors are all depending if you already have them.

GL and don't be scared to ask stupid questions... I'm sure I have the same questions that you have because I'm still working on my b3 to get into some kind of a-main standings... (mainly due to my poor driving ability)

Treads. Proline makes some great tires called "Dirt hawgs" ive had a set for 6 years, and they show little sign of wear. They are also perfect for if you go off roading, they have a great tread pattern.

Yes, I'm going to race. Last winter I tried a 19T and it was great but I needed something with more cruise speed. something thats mellow and just smooth nothing to ass kicking however when it gets dice'y I'll need that extra kick

any special winds and turns I should be in the market for? How are the trinity Shock motors? any word on them?

Thanks Microdude, I'm going to try a Reedy PT 10x2 if it I like it then I'm keeping the B3 sadly if this thing doesn't do what I say I'll be forced to sell her and all her parts for Half8 w/ a Mamba who knows... With that 10t what was your gearing? I'll be using a 81t spur 48 pitch.
Thanks again Microdude

What kind of motor are you looking for? Stock, Mod?

GT Freak

If you can't get the diff apart you will need a left and right diff outdrive, an MIP diff rebuild kit for diff rings and thrust bearing as well as the 2 ball bearings, and of course the diff gear. Tower should carry all of this stuff, and associated has online manuals. I'm kinda strapped for time right now.

Hello all. I have joined the RC10 B3 community resently. I must say that past threads have been really helpful. I have a RC10 Basic Plus that I purchased off Ebay. I have been buying all kinds of blue goodies and the MIP shiny cvd kit. I still need to paint the body but I have ran it around nekid.

I must note that it needs a LOT of suspension tuning before I will feel that it is race worhty.

Has anybody tried the Losi #56 shock piston mod? Did you feel that it improved anything? I could play 20 questions but I will leave it at that for now. Thank you. John

BTW: As a casual rc'er, I don't buy into the B4 hype. To me they handle very similarly IMO

not really. i changed from a B3 to a B4 and shaved a second off my lap record the first pack.

I dont like using losi parts on AE's, IMO associated has muuuuch better shocks than losi

not to mention Losis tend to break more.

Losi shock pistons break often?? WOW!! Who'd have thunk it.

Micro..... I was just basing my opinion by comparing the 2 with stock settings on each. My dads B4 seems to push in the corners a bit too. Both nose dive off jumps, but I think I have that figured out.

Has anybody tried using 10* caster blocks? I would think it would be overkill but I wouldn't know.

if you cant unscrew it with a hex driver. you might have to drill out the screw head to remove it.

well i pulled out the B3 yesterday.

My friend built a nice track, and i took my B4 up there, and took my B3 as my back-up car since i sold my back-up B4. Well i couldnt get the B4 to hook up so i tried the B3, and man, it was incredible. Sure i lost some of the great features of the B4 but man, this car really bites into rough tracks.

Can someone measure the length of a B3 CVD for me? I need a measurement from the hole for the drive pin that the mounts on to the pin at the diff side of the bone. Thanks

I just picked up a b3 on ebay, chassis only. I'm really pretty new to all this but wanted to get a buggy for just playing around. I'm not thinking about racing yet. Any suggestions on what motor, ESC and pinion gear to get me started? Was thinking about 15 turn, would like to do all this fairly cheap for now. Thanks, Jeff

If you are just getting started I would reccomend getting a stock motor something like a P2k2 by Trinity or else the monster stock by trinity or even Binary by Epic are a few really good stock motors. WIth modified motors comes a lot more maitenance and tuning that you may not want to do if you are getting used to things for the first time.
A Novak Explorer 2 seems to be a good speed control to start with. I think it has a 15 turn motor limit and no reverse. LRP also offers a few similar speed controls. I think they go for around 50+ dollars? For a stock motor with a 81 tooth spur gear you would want to run around 21 tooth pinion gear.

Hey, guys. I have a B3 and I need a new body for it. Will a B4 body fit a B3? Particularly this one? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFBH6&P=7 Thanks, guys.

Hey, guys. I'm just bashing right now. But I have an FT B3 and I wanted to know if my gearing was decent..

18t pinion
83t spur
P2K Motor

I'm mostly driving in a real small area and trying to have decent accelleration. Not so much worried about top speed. Thanks, guys.

I like the 81 tooth spur better for bashing. I usually pair that with a 19t pinion and that seems to be the ticket for me.

I've got a B3 now that I got off Ebay as a kit. It was originally the basic kit but I'm adding bearings and cvds as I build. It came with a Tekin Rebel ESC and even an old Futaba Radio that I'll use. It is purely for play/bashing. I race a T4 in a Brushless Li-po class.

I have a brand new Speed Gems Pyrite 10 turn that I'll try with one of my Lipo packs but first I'm going to try the stock motor that came with it. It's called "conquest". It is a Reedy stock as far as I can tell. I don't want it overpowered at first. I have plenty of brushless setups that satisfy that need. I am just a big AE fan and couldn't pass up the Ebay deal. I now have 6 AE cars. Two T4's that I race, one B4 that I would race if there were a class around here, two T3s, and now the B3. My T3s have: ss4300/2500 lipo in #1 and Mtroniks Gen/pro-380c 9t in T3 #2. B4 has GTB/5800 and 8000 lipo. T4 #1 has Mamba Max 4600/8000 lipo, T4 #2 has Cyclone ESC and Reedy KR 12 Double. I guess I am now a collector LOL.

I hope you have a job. I believe i saw that B3, but forgot to check back up on it, dangit. I woulda just used it for parts, so i guess itd get more use from you. Be sure to post pics once you get it.

Time to breathe life back into the B3's. I just traded an old radio for one. I'm excited. This is my first real racing buggy if you don't count the Tamiya Dyna Storm. Anyways I have a Mamba Max just sitting here doing nothing. Very tempting huh? It's only a 4600 Max but should still move. Just gotta know the right combo for gearing. I'll be bashing only.

anyone know which diff outdrives work for the b3? My friend decided to resurrect his. Also, where can i get them?

racerrandy
08-28-2007, 08:56 AM
The diff outdrives are b3/t3. Any LHS should have them. You can go to AE's webpage and get the part number.

The b3/t3 has to be the most versatile platform ever built. Almost every kind of rc car can be made out of one using AE parts.

Thanks for any leads.

Picking up a B3 on the cheap.. looking forward to running it.

Ebay the best source for parts now? or is almost everything still available through a LHS?

Just about 4 months between posts lol. Depends on how large of a shop. LHS's around me still stock 10T parts so they have b/t3 parts as well. If not they can order them. TowerHobbies.com has a good selection as well. If you can't find what you need at either place Ebay then.

Yeah, well my other 2wd offroad is a Jrx pro-SE.. (almost.. an XX)

So as you can see I am not one of the upgrade with the new thing type of guys.

I decided that "keeping up with the Jones' " in this hobby was not worth it.. and you cant do it when you have 4 kids.. lol.

This B3 will do the trick really nice.. and there are a few guys that I follow on Ebay that buy up lots and break them all down to parts. I picked up a set of Threaded shocks for this buggy for $15 for the complete set!!!

I also think this buggy has pretty much any advance that there has been in 2wd. I dont see anything on a B4 or BK2 that I would need on this to be competitive.

Do you?

The B4 adds a few things here and there, but b3's can still be competitive.

I have recently discovered offroad electric racing and have a B3. It has a hobbywing 9t motor & 60A esc. It is very quick, the fastest at our track in a straight line. Now I have to learn to drive good enough to go around corners and stay the right way up AND on the track:D.
I am glad to find this thread still alive (sort of) other forums dont want to talk about the B3 but I love it. I will be back from time to time for help.
