Thanks,
I was wondering,
What should be the first hop up part?
Heat sink motor plate? (which one? trinity ot losi?)
MIP CVDs? (shiny or the new aluminum?)
or what do you guys suggest?
losixxx213
09-09-2003, 09:38 PM
I use the basic cvd's in my xxx, for motor plates, I've never had a problem with my losi one.
losixxx213
09-09-2003, 09:41 PM
If you have losi dogboes they work just as good, cvds hook up a little bit quicker but you won't notice a difference.
Casper
09-10-2003, 12:14 AM
First hop up is tires. Get the ones that work at your track. This will have the largest effect. If you want to run CVD's and race stock then those new losi alum ones are very cool. Other then that stock bones work well and I actually run the slidders in my buggy and truck for stock racing. They are cheap and never wear out! I would start getting graphite arms and a graphite rear tower for hop ups. The stiffer material will help some with the handing of the car. Get a rear tower first. An alum rear pivot block will help strengthen the car also.

ah...
I am thinking of getting an heat sink motor plate first because i don't like the motor when it's super hot...
I can not touch the part of the motorplate for more then half a second...
Which one do you guys recommend?
the trinity heat sink one or the the Team Losi heat sink one?
http://www.******.net/media/115_1545.jpg
losixxx213
09-10-2003, 11:02 PM
I'm going to recommend the losi motor plate, and like casper said get graphite, it will really help make it the car lighter and stiffer, don't worry about strength, graphite has been very strong my in car(I'm talking falling from 20 feet in the air on the side of an a-arm, trying to wall ride a garage).
Casper
09-10-2003, 11:40 PM
The motor plate heat sink will not help a ton with your heat problem. The trinity motor plate is thicker and has more suface area so it would work better as a heat sink but it is also much more expensive. I run the losi one but I run it for wieght.

I was taking apart the transmission,
and i found out that my thrustbearing washer is messed...
What should i get?
the traxxas one listed above or the mip rebuild?
Thanks :)
Casper
09-11-2003, 11:07 PM
I like the traxxas one as it seems to last the longest. Other then that I would get a losi thrust bearing.

hey guys
how would you set up your buggy for this track
here are some pics http://www.msnusers.com/MicroRS4/jjtrack.msnw?Page=Last
Casper
09-12-2003, 12:12 AM
I would try using Pink X-2000's. For some reason the Pink compound works really well at indoor tracks. From there the stock Kinwald setup should work well. If you would like to try my standard setup I will see if I can remember it all
Front. 27.5wt/57 sliver or orange springs. #2 inside for the shocks. #2 -b for the camber link.
Rear: 27.5wt/56 Pink or red springs #2 outside for the shocks. #2-b for the camber link. Hubs centerd. 2deg antisquat.
Springs depend on the condition of the track. The more traction that harder spring in the rear. The less traction or the bumpier the softer the spring. IF you need more low speed steering go with the softer front spring.
Run a silver front tire. Either the 7206 3 rib or the 7204 x-wide body in the front. This is just from my experience at racing at a few different indoor tracks. This is where I would start from. That type of track should work with holeshot tires and if it is really hard and no dust a taper pin or evil twins. Those tires tend not to wear very well but as long as the track is wet the x-2000 or the holeshot will work just as good and last a lot longer.

Hi,
I have a couple of questions which need clarification for the front spindle
spacer on both the XXX and XXXT.
Most of the setup sheets for the XXX buggy stipulate the front spindle height
placed on the bottom. Does this mean the spacer is placed on top of the
spindle or below the spindle?
The XXX Truck setup sheets stipulate the spindle location being the bottom,
again does this mean that the spacer is placed on top of the spindle or
below?
Thanks in Advance,
Sam Contarino.
Casper
09-15-2003, 11:07 AM
Front spindle on the bottom means the spacer is on the top. They are talking about the placement of the spindle when they say top of bottom. That means you need to put the space in the place to move the spindle to that location.
NMT_RACER_BOY
09-16-2003, 10:01 AM
speaking of spindles,
How come XXX uses hex hub style?
Aren't they suppose to be axles like the XXXT and the b3/T3/B4/T4 ?
Casper
09-16-2003, 11:02 AM
The XXX front axle design is one of the greater features of this car. It is really nice to not have to deal with wheel bearings when you take off the front tires. I wish they would have done something like that with the trucks. The hex style adapter was required since the bearings in are in the spindle.

wow xxx bk2:
How do you make the world’s fastest 2 wheel drive off-road buggy and current World Champion better? You turn the expert design staff at Team Losi loose with no limits. Team Losi’s new XXX-BK2 raises the bar for two-wheel drive off-road racing. Starting with the most dominant electric buggy of the 21st century, the Team Losi development team used existing as well as revised and totally new components for a new chassis that allows you to stay one step ahead of the competition.
The key elements of this new design are a new transmission and suspension package that compliment each other and enhance both tune ability and performance. In general, the mass of the transmission and motor has been lowered and moved forward closer the center of gravity for greater forward traction. The increased traction generated has allowed the development of a more aggressive suspension package that offers unmatched tuning opportunities.
The new XXX “Gen II” transmission features a smaller differential with new outdrives, Kevlar® spur gear, machined motor plate, polycarbonate gear cover, revised molded motor guard, but retains the race proven double-disk slipper. Although the diff uses some existing parts, the outdrives have been revised for improved friction dynamics for added traction and performance.
The innovative suspension package features Variable Length Arms, a totally new concept in off-road racing. These new arms feature additional pivot pin, shock, and sway bar locations. In conjunction with the new front carriers and rear hubs, it is easy to alter the handling characteristics of the car to meet the demands of the wide variety of track conditions seen around the world. This also allows the racer to tune the driving feel of the car to better suit his style. To make all this fit into the existing XXX platform there is a new molded forward pivot mount and rear pivot plate as well as a machined aluminum rear pivot mount.
Beside the stunning technical advancements there is also a host of new performance parts like Titanium Nitride hinge pins, o-ringed aluminum shock adjusters, and new shorter CVD’s. Looks haven’t been forgotten either as there is also a new body and wing with most of the aluminum parts finished in Team Losi’s trademark hard anodizing. This remarkable kit allows you to build and tune an off-road buggy that accelerates quicker, brakes straighter, goes through bumps faster, and carve turns with greater speed and stability.

All of them will do the job. I like one that is sold by Traxxas. Part number 2729 Thrust washers(2)/ thrust bearing 10.00. This has grooved washers and a captured bearing. These seem to last the longest in our testing.

cool
the rear pivot block is a piece of junk lol.
It spread open on one side.
at first, i thought the dogbone shrunk somehow lol!
IS the graphite better or the aluminum?
and also,
Will XX4 CVDs fit on XXX?
Casper
09-21-2003, 12:10 AM
The rear CVD's of the XX4 are the same length as the XXX CVD's. Also get the alum rear pivot block. It is much stronger but put longer screws in and mini lock nuts on the other side. This helps to keep the screws from backing out.

i lost a cvd pin... flew out of my hands into 5th demension...
I am gonna see if i can cut a body clip and use that.
BTW, it's a very talkitive thread...
lucky579
10-07-2003, 10:16 PM
Talkitive, hehe, yea a body clip will work, just make sure to put thread lock on the set screw, lots of it, I use the red, make sure it doesn't get all over the cvd.

A body clip will do in a bind!
losixxx213
10-07-2003, 11:49 PM
I lost one of my cvd pins, so I used a axle pin, no need for the set screw because the axle pin is just a bit bigger than the hole for the "real" cvd pin.
Gutter Ball
10-08-2003, 12:12 AM
Body pins work okay, but they're not very strong. I have a small allen key (the "L" shaped ones) and I just cut a piece of that when needed. Stronger than body pin, fits nicely!
Railman
10-09-2003, 10:13 PM
Cvd pins are 1/16" (.0625"). I cut them from HS (m2) drill bits. If you can find them, they also sell drill rod, or drill blanks for much less. You can usually buy two bits for a buck50, & cut two pins from each bit. I also use them for axle pins. The only rpoblem is that they can fall out when you change wheels. A little loktite helps, but isn't a cure. If your running stock the std axle pins are no biggie, but on a gasser it's everything.

Well, thats it, running here in fla. sure is fun,,but what do i run in buggy,, lol,,,xxxke or bk2,,, what a nice delemmer/choice. think i,ll go with the ---bk2. a hellfire rs24 or p2k2pro, gp3300,s, x-2000 rears,3 rib front,, 22/82 gearing,,icp 8362 esc, and a jr2i radio. is that about right ?????--- track is med.length, slippery when dry,,great grip when wet down,,hard surface. should work. :D  --- btw i run stock:cool:

Try a monster stock motor(I know made for huge tracks). i used this in evry one of my races and if geared properly you'll blaze by them on the straights and the lighter arm. spools up faster for those out of corner jumps. As far as which buggy to get, the xxxke is awesome(I have one), when the xxxbk2 comes out, I might get the new tranny, but that'd be about it.
fla-losi
10-15-2003, 11:38 AM
Thanks for the info. i do have a monster horsepower pro, is that the one you mean,, or just the mh stock? track is a medium size,i,d say. takes about low to middle 20 sec. to get around in mod, and about high 28 to 30 sec. in stock--my best so far on laps is 8 in 4 min,s or ave of 30 sec. have run faster laps,, but get bumped over or whatever,so ave goes up lol. thanks again.
losixxx213
10-15-2003, 07:40 PM
Either trinity monster horsepower will do. the tracks I race on only take on avg. 10-12 seconds to get around(in either stock or mod), and my monster horsepower feels better than a p2k2, so go with the monster horsepower.

To get the suspension upgrades to the BK2 here is what you need and I might even forget some things.
Front Arms
Rear Arm.
"T" plate
Rear pivot block
Tranny Case.
Top Shaft.
Diff gear
Diff spring
Outdrives
Front caster blocks
Rear hubs
front bulk head.
I think this is about all but it is quite a few parts and they add up in price. If you can get 100-120 for your old buggy then it is worth just getting a new kit.
The new kit will also give you titanium nitrate hinge pins, kevlar spur gear and alum shock colors if you do not already have them!

Yes my local track is So Cal. I run stock buggy and stock truck. I have not been racing there much as of late. I should visit the track some time in Jan but I will be running the Dirt Nitro Challenge at the end of the month and the 18th is the first race of the so cal series in bakersfield so those races will take up much of time in the next month. I raced yester day I race Alot of gas but I wanted to try out a xxx buggy so I did but half way into the race my battery's went dead i charged it on a good charger I used a novak millennium and three 3300 peak battery you guys have any idea's
losixxx213
06-03-2004, 11:27 PM
They may not have gotten a full charge, if they were new packs or had been sitting around you need to cycle the batterys a few times to get full charges.
Are the ke and mf's still good and competitive? I've been out of the racin seen for a little bit and see that they've been relaced, anyways, let me know what you guys think. I know they're fast as hell cars and even easier to drive.

06-08-2004, 10:10 AM
Just finished building a XXXKE and I seem to have a some trouble with the diff. I built it according to the instruction. First tighten the diff until it doesn't move while holding both outdrives. Once it is in the car, I tighten the slipper clutch nut all the way down. Then holding the spur and the right wheel, the left wheel barely move when I try to turn it. Loosen the slippper clutch nut 4 turns and the car seems to slip within 2 feet. However, the diff will come loose within a few min. First time when I tried to tighten it, I broke the diff screw. After fixing it, I ran the car again and the diff slip within a few minutes. This time I melted the diff. gear. I would understand the need to adjust the diff after a few packs but not within minutes. The locknut that secure the diff screw is the new type one piece unit. I wonder should I have use threadlock to secure the diff screw to prevent the diff. from coming loose. By the way I am only running the car on a baseball diamond with no jumps.
Any tips?
Thanks
losixxx213
06-08-2004, 10:17 PM
the way I adjust mine is lock down the slipper and tighten the diff all the way down, then I'll back the diff off in 1/8 turn increments until the diff is buttery smooth but not loose.

so, I am putting together a list of parts for my xxx buggy. I got the spec kit, cause it was my very first venture into r/c, and i never made money back then. I got my b-day comming up, and I gotta find stuff to put on it. I need a bb upgrade, the ti turnbuckles, and whatever else to get. I got the turnbuckles on my wishlist at horizon. Where can I get a full bb set for this car? I dunno if I need the graphite chassis, I mean, I bash all the time here at home, and in that respect it's not needed, but at the same time, my ft tc3 is WAAAY past ft version. It's got blue hubs, and carbon fiber parts and stuff. I feel my xxx has been neglected, besides getting to drive it more then the other car. Are there even blue hubs for this car? I know there are rears, but how about the front? Also, where can I get blue aluminum outdrives, or outdrive savers? What's a good servo to place in this car? is a graphite chassis as strong as the plastic? what are other good hopups to get? even if it's bling, still, what are good hop-ups? TRINITY/ LOSI rules!

Also, when you guys pcik up a new body to paint, which one do ya get? I just got my 4th body in the mail today, and I dunno. I got the one they give ya for the xxxke2, wit the side vents, and front vent, but I don't like the front of this body, wit the grooves. I dunno what they where thinkin wit that part. I am gonna make a mesh grill for those side louvers, but I think wit my arsenal of bodies, I seem to like the phobia version the best, that they included wit the original ke edition. The original body they made..too plain, to loose, to crappy. I got one of those..I NEVER use it. It's stored in a drawer somewhere. What do you guys like/dislike about each body? Which is the one you use the most?

My friend has just gotten a free XXX buggy. It was left in a shed for a looong time and now im waitin to see it to possibly buy it from him. It has one shock and like no radio or elecs since he took its old rooster ESC out to put in some mystery truck he got for free too! He got the XXX, the mystery truck, and a Traxxas SRT for free!! I cant believe him. Anyways what are the pros and cons about this buggy? Please dont sugarcoat anything either. THnaks!
GOD BLESS!!

Breaking Straight Problems? When I hit the brakes my buggy has a tendency to pull to the right even if it accelerates and coast straight. If I adjust the steering trim on the radio so it brakes straight, it pulls during acceleration and coasting.
I have a Losi XXX BK1. Although I just eying it, the turnbuckles for front toe in, front camber, and read camber all look even.
What could be the problem?
Thanks in advance,

could be a diff or bearing issue...but I would think that you'd have the same prob during excelleration too?

quick question about Hitec Servos in my XXX BK1.
I need to know which number servo horn to use with my HItec HS-635HB steering servo.
i believe the servo horn i was currently using, which is now broken in half, was designed for use with an AE buggy (or so a fellow racer had told me). It has much slimmer than the losi horns and had the letter "H" imprinted on one side. I dont want to risk stripping my sevo before the races on sunday by using an improper servo horn. I have asked around everywhere and no one has given me a straight answer on which horn to use. (ex. 23, 25, 24)
thanks for your time.

UNREA1, I beleive the servo horn needed is the same as futaba, but i'm not positive. Te good news is the servo horn kit from losi comes with all the servo horns and steering bellcrank plastics, etc on one parts tree. This way you can test fit the three horns and use whichever fits best....Jim

losiboy, they have changed the arms front and rear, as well as the hubs and castor blocks to VLA as on the BK2 version of the XXX.
The new car also has a enw trans design, new rear suspension mounts and pivot plate, etc.
The parts interchange, you just need to use the correct hole to match up with your old arms, since the new parts have an "Extra hole", but also the old one......Jim

*Posting for a friend*
My friend just got an xxx-spec used from a friend and wants too know what parts will work for it since all the original xxx-spec parts are discontinued, will the xxx-4 parts work perhaps?
Basically he just needs to know what Losi parts will work with his xxx (dirt) spec since everythings been discontinued.
Thanks :)

All of the XXX BK2 parts will fit on the XXX, but some may need parent parts to be able to fit. For example, the new front and rear arms will work, but to use the optional added outer hinge pin holes you would need the rear hubs and castor blocks (you'll know by seeing two sets of hing pin holes).
The only parts that are very different are the transmission case, idler gear, diff gear and the rear pivot plate and arm mounting components.
The shocks, bearings, hinge pins, most hardware, chassis and steering parts are all the same....Jim

This thread hasnt been seen in a while, so im being it up.
Need setup help.
I have a bk1, and can not get it to turn very well at all. Have some holeshots in the rear, with red springs. Front is orange springs with the standard 3 groove tires. This is on a hard packed clay surface. Everyone at the track is trying to get the right combination since the track opened this past friday.
So i need help with the setup. There is only 1 big jump, with a few small ones.

Does anyone have a list of what parts are shared by the Losi XXXBK and the BK2?
I might pickup an older XXXBK and want to know what parts will be readily available and shared by that and the new BK2.
And it seems like people liked the XXXBK more the the BK2...does that sound right?
Thanks.

Suspension on the BK2 is better, trans on the BK1 is better. Some people are converting back to the old trans in the new cars.

Well I just got the BK2 and totally stripped it and noticed the tranny was different, but then you compare it to the CR XXX and they dont use it. Kinda makes you wonder.

I have had my CR for about a month now. Its pretty similar to the BK1, which is what i bought the CR to replace. Some things are the same, some are very different.

Hey guys I came up on a used BK2 and I've been replacing the out items with new ones. so far I have everything new except the arms, gears, buckles, screws, ballstuds, and shock cartridges.
When I was putting it back together I notice that the steering binds up a little, its like that space that goes in the front hub (the little black one I think) is making the hub just grind far too much and basically its not free. The same is true for the rear hubs. Do I have to ream those? If so with what size? I would imagine the arms are worn in a bit, so any help would be appreciated.

i just picked up a used xxx and it's great! it does wheelies on demand and although it's fun, i wanted to know if it would be better to adjust the slipper or get a larger pinion to stop the the wheelies. my setup is a novak tc2 esc, novak xxl fm rx, trinity dirtinator 10x1 motor, reedy 3000 mAh cells and a jr z550 servo.
also, what's a good body to get? are they all standard? this is my first time owning a buggy.
